Who Owns Your Health Data?

In 18 states, patients are allowed to receive their lab test results directly from the lab. But in 32 other states, these results can only be given to the patient by a licensed physician. What’s the difference in two groups of states?

There is no difference. Patients in both sets of states are the same. The outcome of their diagnoses? The same as well. And yet, physicians in the “no data” states insist that “patient anxiety” is the reason only your doctor can talk to you about your lab tests. Paradoxically, a study by the American Medical Lab Association concluded that only 7% of “out of normal range” test rests are ever reported to the effected patients.
